Situated in the heart of San Francisco’s vibrant Mission District, PizzaHacker/BagelMacher SF masterfully blends the art of authentic Italian pizza with the timeless charm of a classic bagel shop. This unique eatery offers a culinary experience that caters both to pizza enthusiasts craving inventive, flavorful pies and to those looking for freshly made bagels with creamy, satisfying spreads.
The spotlight here is firmly on their artisanal pizzas, which showcase a range of enticing options like the bold and savory Pizza Puttanesca, the herbaceous and peppery Rocketman Pizza, and the indulgently spicy Chorizo and Onion Pizza. Each pie is crafted with a thin, resilient crust that strikes the perfect balance between tenderness and structure—allowing for neat, foldable slices without the need for utensils. This attention to textural detail delights customers who appreciate an authentic, hands-on pizza experience. For those who prefer a lighter, gluten-free choice, the Gluten Free Squairs provide a thoughtful alternative without sacrificing flavor.
Beyond pizza, PizzaHacker/BagelMacher SF invites guests to enjoy its roster of fresh bagels, accompanied by silky cream cheese or vibrant, garden-fresh arugula. Their commitment to quality extends to their thoughtfully curated appetizers, including the richly flavored 100% Grassfed Beef Meatballs served in a housemade marinara, and the irresistible combination of crispy Brussels sprouts topped with smoky bacon bits and a tangy rocket sauce. The salads, like the Intermezzo with its medley of bittersweet greens and a gentle poppyseed dressing, round out an offering that elevates classic comfort food to something truly memorable.
Complementing these dishes is a selection of refreshing non-alcoholic beverages, such as the crisp Saratoga Sparkling Water sourced from Mexico and the nostalgic Mexican Coke sweetened purely with cane sugar—a perfect pairing to balance the rich and bold flavors on your plate.
The atmosphere at PizzaHacker/BagelMacher SF is as inviting as its menu. Reviewers frequently note the friendly, attentive staff and a family-friendly vibe that adds warmth to the dining experience. Regulars appreciate the evolving menu, with new topping combinations that continually surprise and satisfy. While some subtle critiques on flavor intensity appear, the overall consensus highlights gracious service and consistent quality.
Whether you're dropping by for a casual takeaway slice that captures the essence of old-world Italy or settling in to savor a freshly baked bagel in a lively neighborhood spot, PizzaHacker/BagelMacher SF promises a deeply satisfying and authentic taste of San Francisco’s culinary creativity.
The food was delicious! The meatballs had so much flavor, the sauce was amazing, the pizza was fabulous. Authentic Italian flavor. We ordered 1 pizza and 3 meatballs and it was perfect for my 3 person family.
Solid pizza ~ The Margarita was alirght "The Ohio" was quality. Very nice place, good beer on tap, good vibes
Excellent pizza! The crust is thin but holds up when you grab a slice (perfect for not needing a knife and fork!). The toppings are great, too. They come up with new combinations of toppings frequently, and the best ones go on the menu permanently. We ended up getting the wrong pizza but that was resolved swiftly and with great service. Super friendly and good staff!
First time there so I won’t dare to judge them till I visit them enough times to give them a fair review but so far I was pleased with their pizza their version of the typical pepperoni pie and I even liked the Shroom one as well. The good news is that they impressed me enough to return and try their other options. As far as service and atmosphere they’re set up to be very family friendly so if you’re looking for a fine dining experience you’re not getting it here. Service is simple and straightforward. They keep their menu pretty simple as well which I like.
The Rocket Man pizza smelled great and had a nice thin crust. The garlic was good, but it could’ve used a bit more flavor overall. Even the arugula sauce was bland—and interestingly, it turned sour after being refrigerated. Prep was quick, though. Husband felt his Ohio pizza had way too many peppers.
Could not believe the quality of this pizza! Just moved to the neighborhood and had a pizza craving tonight. Been to New York, been to Boston, but The Ohio pizza was the best pepperoni I've ever had, 100% no joke. Will be back for more. The crust, the sauce, the pepperoni... perfection.
